The Simurban software suite has two key end user components.  These are the Environment Editor and The World Simulator.

The Environment Editor application is an authoring toolset that allows users to input data and edit any Simurban project.  The Environment Editor enables the input of:

  • terrain data (based on aerial photography and digital elevation data)
  • simulated vegetation (based on photography), and
  • 3D models of buildings and infrastructure, water sheets and sounds.

The World Simulator allows the user to fly, drive or walk through and around the real world environment in real-time via a keyboard, mouse or joystick interface. Users can manipulate layers to turn building models on and off and change the date and time to affect changes to sun and shadow angles.

Realtime Interactivity – fly to any vantage point and manipulate any object in realtime.
Orthorectified and Surveyed Inputs – create models with real world accuracy to the limit of your data.
Scenery Engine – simulate millions of vegetation objects in realtime.
Solar Depiction Engine – exact representation of sunlight and shadows for any time of day or year.
Advaced Shader Technology – cutting edge visual effects, eg animated water, particle system clouds.
Sound Attenuation Modelling – create spatially correct 3D sound
Open Architecture – allows integration with GIS and other urban planning applications
DirectX Based Engine – operates on any Windows desktop with a advanced graphics card.

How we create your real-time model

The RealSim ‘built environment’ is based on real world survey data. We first create the terrain by draping high resolution ortho-photography over terrain data. Geo-referenced 3-dimensional CAD buildings are then placed on the terrain.

The buildings can be photo-textured from ground and elevated photography adding context and realism to the model. Simulated scenery is then added, such as lamp posts, traffic lights, benches etc.

Once compiled the Simurban World Simulator allows anyone to fly around this built environment in real time via a standard PC or laptop.

Realtime Explained

Realtime refers to the interactive nature of our virtual 3D models. This differs from static 2D renderings of buildings and movies with pre-programmed flight paths. The Simurban software suite combines the advances in realtime rendering from the gaming industry with novel 3D GIS features to allow the user to measure, analyse and locate oneself in this virtual 3D environment.

Advantages
  • Reduces development assessment time by 50%
  • Accuracy and realism of models reduces the number of contentious cases, with drastic reduction in litigation cost
  • Faster and better planning outcomes
  • Reduction of shadow analysis from half a day to 5 minutes
  • Improved community consultation
  • Ability to address all issues at one forum without developers having to re-submit plans.
  • Implementation as key master planning tool
